Community Inn Ministry
December, 2009
Due to such positive experiences for our First Lutheran volunteers while serving the new Community Inn, we have decided to expand our ministry with this Homes of Hope project.
Rather than serving just one week twice a year, we will volunteer for a week each quarter. Our assignments are:
The 3rd week in January,
from the 17th to the 23rd.
The 3rd week in April,
from the 18th to the 24th.
The 3rd week in July,
from the 18th to the 24th.
If you are being led to share your time and talents with the Inn, please contact
Nancy Bryant, First Lutheran Liaison, 704-438-0350, or call the church office.
If you cannot serve during those weeks, you can serve almost anytime if you contact Chris Story, Director of the Inn, 704-322-0147, and tell him you would like to help on your own. We would like to keep track of First Church folks who help during the year, so if you have helped on your own, let Nancy or the office know
LUTHERAN
WORLD
RELIEF
Thanks to everyone who helped to make the donations to Lutheran World Relief possible and a special thanks to Ray and Edna Lybrand for making 154 blanket tops. Thirteen volunteers put in 1,622 hours putting blankets together, and 106 quilts were sent. Eight blankets were donated to Community Inn for the homeless.
Final Counts for World Relief are as follows:
Quilts 106
School Kits 35
Health Kits 32
Please continue to make your donations or join the blanketmakers the last Monday and Tuesday mornings at 9:00 AM so that 2010 totals will be just as high if not higher.
BETHEL BIBLE SERIES BEGINS IN JANUARY
Pastor John will be leading a 20-session series on the Old Testament in the Bethel Bible Study Series. Classes will be held on Thursday nights…with a few classes held on Tuesday nights because of scheduling conflicts. These classes will begin at 7:00 PM and will end at 8:30 PM. There will NOT be memorization required for this class…but it will be a very thorough overview of the Old Testament. We will begin the session in early January…and plan to end it before the Memorial Day Holiday.
The cost for this class is $35.00, which includes all materials…but please don’t let the price of the class deter any who would like to take it. All ages – from high school up – are welcome to be a part of this class. A list of class dates is listed below. We hope you will consider being a part of this wonderful Bible Study Series.
